How to Set Up AI Product Recommendations on the Thank You Page

Display AI-powered product recommendations on your Shopify Thank You page to encourage repeat purchases immediately after checkout. This guide explains how to create a Thank You Product Offer in WeUpsell, publish it, and add it to your Shopify Thank You page.

📋 Requirements

  • ✓Your store must support Shopify's Thank You Page Extensions.
  • ✓The WeUpsell – AI Upsell & Cross Sell app must be installed.
  • ✓Your store must be using Shopify Checkout Extensibility.

1Step 1: Open the Template Library

To begin, navigate to your templates inside the WeUpsell dashboard:

  1. Open WeUpsell from your Shopify Admin.
  2. Go to Templates.
  3. Under Upsell Extensions, click ThankYou Product Offer.

This template allows you to display AI-powered product recommendations on your Shopify Thank You page after customers complete their purchase.

After opening the template, customize the appearance of your recommendation widget. You can configure the following elements:

  • Product Image
  • Product Title
  • Price
  • Product Variant
  • Quantity Selector
  • Product Description
  • Buy Now Button
  • WeUpsell Branding

Enable or disable these elements based on the experience you want to provide to your customers.

Note: The preview uses sample products for demonstration. On your live store, WeUpsell automatically displays personalized, related, or complementary products based on the customer's completed purchase.

Open the Conditions tab. For Thank You Page Extensions, page targeting, triggers, and display schedules are not used. The recommendation widget will only appear after it has been added to the Shopify Thank You Editor.

After customizing your recommendation widget:

  1. Click Publish & open in editor.
  2. A setup dialog will appear explaining the next steps.
  3. Click Publish.

Publishing saves the template in WeUpsell and automatically opens the Shopify Thank You Editor.

Editor. Open the Apps section in the left sidebar. Under AI Upsell by WeUpsell, you'll see:

  • ThankYou Product Offer
  • ThankYou Product Offer 2

These app blocks are used to display AI-powered product recommendations on the Thank You page.

6Step 6: Add the WeUpsell App Block

There are two ways to add the recommendation block.

Option 1 (Recommended)

  1. Open the Apps panel.
  2. Under AI Upsell by WeUpsell, locate ThankYou Product Offer or ThankYou Product Offer 2.
  3. Click the + icon.
  4. Select Thank you.

The recommendation block will be added automatically to your Thank You page.

Option 2

If the Apps panel isn't available:

  1. In the Thank You Editor, click Add block.
  2. Search for ThankYou Product Offer.
  3. Select the WeUpsell app block.

The recommendation widget will be inserted into the Thank You page.

After adding the app block, position it where you want customers to see it. Recommended locations include:

  • Directly below the order confirmation message
  • Below the purchased product details
  • Above the Order Summary
  • Before the Customer Information section

Displaying recommendations near the top of the Thank You page generally results in better visibility.

Once you've positioned the widget:

  1. Click Save in the top-right corner.
  2. Wait for Shopify to save your changes.

Your AI Product Recommendations are now live on the Thank You page.

✓ Verify Your Setup

To verify that everything is working correctly on your live store:

  • ✓Place a test order.
  • ✓Open the Thank You page after completing checkout.
  • ✓Confirm that AI product recommendations are displayed.
  • ✓Verify product details, image rendering, and check that the Buy Now button adds the recommended products successfully.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

I can't find the ThankYou Product Offer block.

Check that the template has been published from WeUpsell, you're editing the correct Thank You profile, the WeUpsell app is installed/enabled, and your store is using Shopify Checkout Extensibility.

The block is available but doesn't appear on the Thank You page.

Make sure you've clicked Save after adding the block. Refresh the editor, or complete a real test order to verify the live experience instead of relying only on the editor preview.

The preview displays placeholder products.

This is expected. The editor uses sample products to demonstrate the layout. Once the widget is live, WeUpsell automatically displays personalized, related, or complementary products based on the customer's completed order.

💡 Best Practices

  • •Recommend products that naturally complement the customer's purchase.
  • •Display 2–4 relevant products to keep the page clean and engaging.
  • •Use high-quality product images and concise product titles.
  • •Place recommendations immediately below the order confirmation for maximum visibility.
  • •Test different product recommendations and placements to improve repeat purchases and increase Average Order Value (AOV).
